Cambridge Indivisible Condemns Terror Tactics by ICE, Blasts Rep. Harris’s Callous Response
While ICE terrorizes immigrant families on the Eastern Shore, Rep. Andy Harris shrugs it off as “just the law.” Cambridge Indivisible is calling it what it is: tyranny.
CAMBRIDGE, MD — Cambridge Indivisible stands in fierce solidarity with our immigrant neighbors as ICE continues to terrorize families across the Eastern Shore—and we strongly condemn Rep. Andy Harris’s shameful dismissal of this brutality as simply “the law.”
ICE agents are smashing car windows, ripping people from their families during court hearings, even detaining parents and leaving their children behind sobbing and alone. These are not routine procedures. This is state-sponsored terror, plain and simple.
"Let’s be clear," said Michelle Fowle, Co-Chair of Cambridge Indivisible. "Masked agents detaining people without warning, without warrants, without due process—this is not lawful. This is tyranny. When Harris says ‘that’s just the law,’ what he’s really saying is: ‘I see this cruelty, and I’m fine with it.’ Well, we’re not.”
Pastor Daniel Fuentes Espinal—an Eastern Shore faith leader with no criminal record—was snatched from his community with no warning, no hearing, and no humanity. He is just one of many. These tactics are not isolated incidents; they are a pattern of fear and repression, carried out with the full blessing of Rep. Harris and his far-right allies.
“This isn’t immigration enforcement,” said Andy Fowle, Co-Chair of Cambridge Indivisible. “It’s a campaign of fear designed to silence, displace, and dehumanize. You don’t fix a broken system by breaking people.”
Let’s not forget: Republicans have blocked sensible immigration reform and a path to citizenship for decades, because it serves their political and economic interests to keep immigrants living in fear. It also allows them to offer up scapegoats for problems created by the billionaires they serve—problems like stagnant wages, unaffordable housing, and crumbling public services.
Now, with ICE acting as their shock troops, they’re not even pretending to govern. They’re wielding terror as a tool of control. Cruelty is the point.
Cambridge Indivisible rejects the narrative that this is simply business as usual. We know our history. We know what unchecked state power looks like—and we will not be silent as our neighbors are hunted in broad daylight.
We are building a community rooted in love, resilience, and protection. We will continue to show up, speak out, and resist this regime’s cruelty at every turn.
We call on every elected official—regardless of party—to denounce these terror tactics and demand the immediate release of Pastor Espinal and all those unjustly detained.
We are not powerless. We are not alone. And we are not backing down.
