CAMBRIDGE, MD — July 2, 2026

WHAT: A public, costumed reading of "The Dorchester Resolves of 2026" — a citizens' declaration in the tradition of the 1774 colonial Resolves, holding government accountable from the White House to Cambridge City Hall — followed by a guided tour of the newly reopened Harriet Tubman Museum & Educational Center. After the reading, community members will be invited to add their names to the Resolves, presented on a two-foot-by-six-foot scroll. Cold water will be provided for all attendees.

WHEN: Today, Thursday, July 2, 2026 · 5 to 5:30 p.m. — Reading of the Resolves · 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. — Walk to and tour of the museum

WHERE: In front of the Dorchester County Courthouse, 206 High St., Cambridge, Md. Gather by the Harriet Tubman statue. Museum tour at 424 Race St.

WHO: Cambridge Indivisible, with co-founders Michelle Fowle and Andy Fowle; museum tour led by director Linda Harris.

WHY: The Resolves trace federal actions to their local cost and name who is responsible at each level — from the President; to Rep. Andy Harris, who voted for the 2025 budget law and defended it as "a win for Maryland," even as 188,800 of his constituents rely on Medicaid and its new work requirements fall on working-age adults, including the 54,300 covered through the ACA expansion; to the State of Maryland, the Dorchester County Council, and the Cambridge city government, whom the Resolves call on to protect residents. Read in the county where Harriet Tubman was born enslaved, on the courthouse ground where people were once sold.

VISUALS: Participants in 1774 period dress; a town crier; the reading on the historic courthouse steps; residents lining up to sign the six-foot Dorchester Resolves scroll; the Harriet Tubman statue; the procession to and tour of the Tubman museum. Organizers and the museum director available for interviews on site.
